Piscifun Fishing Line Spooler

Have you ever tried to spool a reel by yourself and failed miserably? Maybe you used the 2 person approach where one of you held a pencil with the spool on it and at the same time kept tension to prevent it from unspooling everywhere. Meanwhile the other person would keep the line tight by holding it against the rod while they reeled it onto the reel.

If that was you then you need to get yourself a Piscifun Fishing Line Spooler. It takes the bird’s nests, line twists out of spooling a line and pencil holding out of the equation. It can be used with almost any reel type and is simple to setup and use.

What’s in the Box

The Piscifun Line Spooler comes with everything you need in the box.
You get:

  • The Handle where your reel attaches.
  • Line Spooler Arm.
  • 2 sizes of spool sleeves.
  • Instructions.

Features of the Piscifun Fishing Line Spooler

  • Locking screw to prevent the spool head from rotating. Keep this tight for bait casting and level wind reels. Loosen it for Spinning reels.
  • Adjustable tension screw in the middle of the rotor. This adjusts the tension placed on the spool helping to prevent the spool of line from unraveling when you stop reeling. Also assists in keeping the line tight as you reel the line from the spool.
  • Spinning rotor for spooling a spinning reel and a locking screw to prevent the rotor from spinning when spooling a bait casting or level wind reel.
  • 2 spool bore diameter sleeves to accommodate 0.59″ and 0.35″ line spools. These are used to secure the spool in the rotor head of the spooler.

About Piscifun

Piscifun pronounced as Pee-cee-fun, was founded in 2013 by 2 friends called Ben and Peter. Pisci means fish in Latin and Piscifun as a word translates to “Fishing is Fun”. Their company logo says it all about their company, “Fish with Family”.

Their goal is to keep high quality fishing gear affordable so anglers around the world can have great gear without breaking the bank to get it. They are quoted as saying “We want customers to know that Piscifun is here to make fishing fun and affordable again so the average angler can afford high quality gear”.

Ben owns a fishing product manufacturing plant and has been doing that for over 20 years and not only supports the Piscifun brand but other well known brands as well. Peter is an avid angler that has fished in some pretty amazing areas from Malaysia to Florida.

Their success stems from their dedication to bring their customers what they need and want through constant research and product development. They accomplish this by aligning themselves with top anglers around the world to gain insight into what is needed and what it should look like. Then it is tested by their pro staff, revamped and made ready to withstand the use by all anglers of all skill sets.

How to Use the Piscifun Fishing Line Spooler

As a tackle shop owner and angler, I can tell you spooling a reel is not an easy task by yourself. Then I found the Piscifun Spooler. What a time saver.

Getting ready to use it out of the box is very straight forward. Simply insert the reel handle into the spool portion to get started.

Secure your reel to the reel holder just like you would to an actual rod. The Piscifun spooler can handle spinning reels, bait caster reels, level wind reels and spin cast reels. It is not designed for fly reels or centre pin reels.

Connect the line from the spool you are going to use to the reel. So far this is no different than what you would any other time when spooling a reel. One tip here is to place the line back into the spool line holder area until you have the spool mounted in the spooler head.

Now this is where the use of this device starts to play a role. Tighten the rotor lock so that the spool holder does not spin while you are getting the line set in the holder. Be sure you have the right size of spool sleeve inserted in the spool bore.

Tighten the spool holder middle screw to finger tight tension. This helps place drag on the spool, keeping the line tight while spooling, and prevents the spool from continuing to spin when you stop reeling.

Loosen the rotor lock screw if you are spooling a spinning or spin cast reel so that the spool head will rotate as you reel. This will prevent the line from twisting and bird nesting as you reel the line onto your empty spool. Leave the rotor screw tight if you are spooling a bait caster or level wind reel.

What I like

  • Ease of use and setup
  • Cost. Very inexpensive compared to other models.
  • Capable of spooling multiple reel types
  • Can be used with braid, fluorocarbon, monofilament
  • Allows for even line wind and tension
  • No line twists or bird nests.
  • No longer need 2 anglers for a 1 angler task.
  • Being made from ultra-high polyethylene fiber, the unit is durable, lightweight and can be quickly disassembled for travelling.

What Needs Work

  • Would be nice if the reel handle screwed into the spool holder area.
  • Accommodate larger spools of line.

The Untwisted Verdict

Although a pencil or screwdriver is cheaper to use, this time saver could be the difference between re-spooling on the lake or going home to find a buddy to hold the spool for you. It is compact enough to carry with you in your backpack or store it under the bow of the boat.

If you are tired of uneven line spooling, poor line tension and struggling to re-spool your reel, then you need to look no further. This small but mighty piece of equipment is what you need.

Think of it like the American Express saying and when you go fishing, don’t leave home without it!

This is a must have accessory for any angler and is less expensive than the tank of gas to drive back home to spool your line and lose an entire day of fishing!
